Modern Shakespeare

an English Project by the students of 7C

His imagination is vast, his subjects topical – it is no wonder Shakespeare's plays still hold great fascination for us today both on the stage and screen. But what about school?

How do students keep Shakespeare fresh and relevant for the modern day audience?

A modern context, modern-day language, a total make-over? Or all of the above?

Here is a selection of ideas 7C students have come up with:

  • Macbeth as a cruel CEO of a big company
  • Romeo and Juliet as modern teenagers discovering that their puppy love will not last forever
  • Macbeth’s three witches being students at school, trying to cope with their evil English teacher

One group even produced their scene for the big screen!
